TRAVELING FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS PANDEMIC || After 3 hours of travel time from Manila, a quick boat ride that took only 20 minutes of our time, despite its unpredictable weather and sudden rain shower, we alight to this private island with our backpacks that suddenly felt like a week of vacation, with 2 other eco bags in our arms trying to gather all the groceries and drinks and junk foods we were craving for, as I manage to carry and protect myself with an umbrella on one hand.

I removed my mask — finally!!! going around the cabin style house in the middle of the island. Gazing thru the beauty of the greens and nature around — it was indeed, gonna be a great weekend perhaps! I got extremely excited as I check on the kitchen place, its cooking wares and kitchen tools were everywhere, I felt like a kid placed inside the playground and promises to be there for a long period of time. It was such a delight to be out of Manila once again. The thought of enjoying ourselves in the middle of the calm and very quiet place was definitely one of my favorite.

We cooked dinner in the cabin, had a quick decoration in the room as Maze (one of my friend) would be celebrating her birthday as well. The D-I-Y cake Shane prepared, the table we were preparing, that chocolates Vin brought us that gave us all those delight and that 1 can of Japanese beer I bought for us to maximize the use of the red cup we brought. The night was young, as the four of us discusses stories about life, love and career, here goes series of nostalgic memories from our past travels that helped us be reminded of the happy moments we had before the pandemic times.

Those laughter that almost made us cry, those never-ending bickering on love life and random stories we would only discuss on a personal level, that 2 bottle of beers each that didn’t literally made us dizzy at any point and that comfy seats we won’t mind spending an hour or two just to chill. Hello to the bonfire and the smores we created over the goya spread (since a jar of nutella won’t just do the trick this time). I lay down in the middle of the island, gazing thru the stars for a short time, with no electricity around we ran a couple of minutes after assuming it might rain at any given time and that we might be too unprepared for that (haha!)

Come the next morning, that was such a breeze, as we spent a refreshing breakfast facing a beautiful view, a freshly prepared coffee, with the Mie Goreng we were raving for, and that sunshine and cold breeze of air that touches us, making us even wanted to stay longer in our seats. With the never-ending chitchat and exchanges of stories another weekends of doing nothing might always be a great idea once again next time.

You see, traveling still gives us more memories over the group chat of playing among us in our phones, the beauty of seeing your friends and actually talking with them on a personal level is something we should always treasure and look forward to. The moments with nature and that fresh breeze of air is still incomparable in Manila. And thanks to this secluded and private island we felt safe at the same time.
The pandemic is still out there, and no one is indeed pretty safe until today. But this weekends I get to spend with my friends would definitely be something I’ll always be reminded of — the serenity of the place, the activities available to do, the food we eagerly prepared for, those junk foods I wouldn’t be eating perhaps on the next couple of weeks again for sure! haha! and those inside jokes created towards the trip would always be part of this comeback trip in time of this pandemic.
